Will Anderson is an artist based in Omaha, who focuses primarily on painting, with a particular emphasis on oil. His practice also integrates elements of collage and sculpture. He holds a BFA from the Kansas City Art Institute.
“My imagery tends to be very graphic and object-based with an orientation around pattern and multitudes rather than representing things as they are,” Anderson said. “ I often choose things based on the color first. Also shape, texture and weight, or how those things can be suggested.”
Anderson’s work can be found in the Cottonwood hotel’s permanent collection and the Smith and McIntyre private collections. He has exhibited at the Bemis Underground, Petshop gallery, Sanctuarium, Maple Street Construct (both Nebraska and California), Project Project, and the RNG Gallery in Iowa.
Regarding how he chooses the subjects for his pieces, Anderson said, “Finding patterns that feel good or arrangements that are challenging is very meditative for me. The subjects can lose their meaning during the process and regain a meaning by the end. It’s hard to say how else I choose things, sometimes there is a psychological edge to them. Other times the more ‘every day’ it feels, the deeper the meditation.”
