BIO: Josh Powell is a painter, sculptor, and drawer. He prefers to mix the three and work mostly as a mixed media artist. He has earned a BFA at the University of Nebraska at Omaha. Josh works very fast, at times working on more than one piece at once. He generally has somewhat of an initial plot to each piece but mostly works intuitively. Josh wants people to convey a sense of powerful emotions through his 2d/3d narratives. He works mainly amongst the three surrealists rules; juxtaposition, transformation and dislocation.

ARTIST STATEMENT: Iʼve been thinking a lot lately about rebuilding a wasteland, a sort of post apocalyptic landscape. I know that sounds sad but honestly, by creating these fake landscapes, Iʼve kind of seen how unifying, inventive, and peaceful it could be. Not that Iʼm wishing for this scenario to happen, because I think that would be such a horrific event. A lot of my work has kind of touched on the industrial military complex, so I guess itʼs only fitting for me to think about the aftermath. When the dust settles, there is no country vs country. In this work we are unified as drifters and scavengers. Trying to piece together something, anything familiar.
